From College Basketball Wiki

Hi, Dan. Thanks for the welcome message. I certainly didn't expect to find other VU partisans here so soon. Maybe having support from the "powers that be" on here can help offset the effects of the UTK-dominated local media. ;-)

I'll post a link on VandySports.com too to try to get some others to join us. Cheers, PhilipR 15:48, 10 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox / bot?

Are you using a bot to create these stub pages? I'm about to throw up an Infobox with, at the very least, coach's name, enrollment, 2005 record, etc. Of course updating it from a table would be much easier than manual updates. If you don't have such a bot, I'll probably adapt a Wikipedia one. thx, PhilipR 20:34, 21 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] More about bots and automation

I forgot to mention, I'm using a ruby-based Web testing automation framework that i LOVE called Watir. It wouldn't be hard to modify it to do botlike functions on this wiki. I can't take that on myself, but if you're interested in getting it going i can possibly help. - PhilipR 23:04, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Conference records

The present implementation of conference records appears to be adding to the height of the table rows -- at least, that's how it appears to work on Vanderbilt. Wouldn't it be better to have a separate column? And if necessary, to increase the table width so that we're not overrunning each row by a few characters (i.e., by the conference record itself)? thx, PhilipR 18:17, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I haven't clarified this point or replied to your message yet... i've been sick and away from the wiki for the last several days. I'll get you a screen shot soon. PhilipR 21:12, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, as I look at it now, the issue of the "SEC" in the conference record taking up extra height is gone now, so it probably depends on the resolution, browser size, etc. I'll keep an eye out and see if I see the "problem" recur.
Meanwhile, I have another standards question: How should I track historical records of the conference tournaments? Or for that matter of the NCAA and NIT? Obviously they'd go under the teams' postseason record, but it seems there should also be pages for, say, 2004 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championships. (I think that's the official name, but honestly we should probably have a series of redirects and disambiguations from pages like 2004 NCAA etc. Gender equity may be pitted against convenience in that example.)
For now I'm going to create ad hoc solutions in ways that lend themselves to adaptation to future standards. PhilipR 00:50, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reply

Hey,

I've been kinda absent for a week or two, in part because Vanderbilt mbb was so depressing me, in part because I've just been busy. I saw your RFC and I'll check it out and try to give you an intelligent comment. Sorry for the delay. PhilipR 03:08, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

(BTW, Wikicities somehow had a problem with their spam blacklist and prevented my edit. But it only looked like it was blocking my edit - it really went through a million and one times. Hence the odd history. ) :)

[edit] Subject: Qwika searches you / Permission to use the logo this site

Hello

My name's Luke Metcalfe. My colleagues and I launched a site last month called Qwika. It's a search engine designed specifically for wikis. We've recently added hoops.wikia.com to our index. Some example searches:

http://www.qwika.com/find/Rutgers http://www.qwika.com/find/bellarmine

We would like to make some interface improvements to our site such that our users can see a small edition of the logo for each WikiCity/Wikia. We would like your permission to use this, and also a small version on the homepage, just as part of a list of wikis we cover.

If you have any questions or comments, I'd love to hear them.

Cheers

Hello, unfortunately I uploaded twt files, which I would like to delete again, but I don't have permission. Those files don't have to do with Basketball. They are called bewerbung.pdf

Please delete them for me!

Sorry!

[edit] Offer to help with College Basketball Wiki

Dan,

I am the founder and editor of Bracketography.com -- would love to help with the College Hoops Wiki in some way -- send me an email (listed on my site) and let me know what you had in mind if you are interested.

Best, David Mihm

[edit] Just stumbled in

Hello Dan. I just discovered this Wiki, and it's a great idea. I think I'll be able to help, if you'll have me. I am a big college basketball fan -- mostly D-III and the Ivy League, but I follow everyone to some extent. I am also a collector of data and information, and now I have someplace to put all my collections instead of a folder full of spreadsheets in my computer. In addition, over the years I have acquired stacks of media guides which have even more information, especially about history of various programs. - Michael Rudolf 19:38, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
